Mountain Biking
Cross Country Riding The Forest of Dean offers a vast range of trails for the more adventurous rider. On the escarpment to the rear of the cycle centre can be found a myriad of single tracks through the trees. Interwoven with these tracks are the waymarked Free-Miner's and fantastic new Verderer's Trail. There are also testing downhill trails for expert riders, definitely not for the faint hearted. If you wish to wander further afield there are many miles of stone track ranging across the huge forest expanse with stunning views of the Severn Valley as it rolls to the sea. Freeminer's Trail The Free Miner Trail (formerly the FODCA) is graded RED on the CTC classification of cycle trails. Designed, built and maintained by volunteers in partnership with the Forestry Commission, this challenging and varied single track (4.5Km) can offer something to even the most demanding of riders, from tricky switchback climbs to rooty drops and hairpin bends. It is for experienced riders only and is suitable for off-road quality mountain bikes.
